Power purchase agreement

In Europe, gas and oil still account for 59% of the country’s energy supply, directly exposing businesses and local authorities to market price volatility. Securing part of your electricity supply has become a strategic necessity

VALOREM offers local authorities and businesses direct power purchase agreements for renewable electricity

Today, you can choose to purchase electricity directly from a renewable energy plant, under an agreement signed directly with the renewable electricity producer.

This strategic choice provides long-term protection against volatility and rising energy prices. With agreements that can run for up to 20 years, you benefit from a fixed, guaranteed and competitive electricity price, while securing your supply of renewable electricity.

By giving you long-term budget visibility, these agreements make financial planning easier and strengthen your energy independence, while supporting the development of new renewable generation capacity across the region.

The VALOREM Group offers a range of contract models designed to match your strategic objectives, energy needs and financial capabilities. Choosing a direct power purchase agreement with VALOREM means taking concrete action in support of the energy transition, significantly reducing your carbon footprint, and securing your supply of green electricity while removing the uncertainty associated with price volatility.

1 Protect your business from price volatility

Energy markets are inherently unpredictable: sudden increases in wholesale prices, geopolitical tensions, regulatory changes, and more. A PPA protects you from these uncertainties by guaranteeing a fixed and competitive price for the entire duration of the contract, regardless of market developments.

2 A contract tailored to your needs

Every organisation has its own unique consumption profile. That is why we design flexible contracts tailored to the technology, the size of the installation, its location and the desired duration. Whether you want to cover part or all of your energy needs, we work with you to build the solution that best optimises your risk management.

3 Gain a visible competitive advantage

Controlling your energy costs also helps you stand out. By choosing renewable electricity, you strengthen your environmental performance and align your energy strategy with the growing expectations of your customers, partners and the communities in which you operate.

4 Access green electricity without compromise

A PPA gives you direct access to renewable, low-carbon electricity, together with the associated Guarantees of Origin. You reduce your Scope 2 CO₂ emissions, make tangible progress towards your internal climate targets, and meet the requirements of your ESG and CSR commitments.

5 Contribute to Europe’s energy independence

Every PPA signed helps bring a new renewable project to life: new generation capacity, stronger local development, and a power system moving away from fossil fuels. By partnering with us, you actively contribute to the energy resilience of your region and to long-term security of supply.

SNCF: Eastern France trains powered by wind energy!

The SNCF Group is one of the largest electricity consumers in France. In 2022, electricity prices rose by more than 38%*. To reduce its exposure to the uncontrollable fluctuations of global energy markets, the national rail operator sought to secure 93 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity per year over 25 years. This direct power purchase agreement for the entire output of the Cheniers wind farm — 8 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 36 megawatts (MW) — guarantees the SNCF Group enough electricity to cover its annual needs for the Paris–Rennes TGV line, or for all Intercités routes, including Bordeaux–Marseille, Paris–Clermont-Ferrand and Paris–Limoges–Toulouse.

Nantes Métropole chooses VALOREM

Initiated in 2016, the Rouans wind project developed by VALOREM was designed in close consultation with local stakeholders. It illustrates a new way of accelerating the energy transition in Loire-Atlantique, combining local green electricity generation with strong regional involvement.

The wind farm is the first project in France to benefit from a Contrat d’Achat Direct d’Énergie Renouvelable (CADER) — a direct renewable energy purchase agreement — signed in early 2025 with a group of seven public buyers brought together by Nantes Métropole and Territoire d’Énergie Loire-Atlantique (TE44). This long-term, 20-year agreement covers one wind turbine at the site and will help secure part of the local authorities’ energy supply, while also guaranteeing project revenues outside traditional public support mechanisms.
