VALOREM Group celebrates the inauguration of the VIIATTI wind farm in Finland: the largest ever built by the Group!
On Saturday, August 23, the VALOREM Group inaugurated its largest wind farm to date: the VIIATTI project. This emblematic achievement has become a landmark reference for the Group, accelerating its expansion across Europe.

A Gigantic Project!
Located in the Ostrobothnia region of Finland, the VIIATTI project comprises two wind farms:
- Kalistanneva: total installed capacity of 165 MW, 30 wind turbines rated at 5.5 MW each. This farm was sold by VALOREM in 2022, at the end of the development phase, to a 100% Finnish consortium consisting of HELEN, the electricity company of the City of Helsinki, and the Wind Power Fund of Ålandsbanken.
- Matkussaari: with a capacity of 148.5 MW, fully owned and operated by VALOREM. The site includes 27 turbines rated at 5.5 MW each.
Together, the two wind farms will generate around 1 TWh of electricity annually, enough to supply more than 120,000 households, representing about 1.2% of Finland’s annual electricity demand.
The VIIATTI project also included the development and construction of a 40 km high-voltage transmission line connecting the substations of both wind farms to the FINGRID delivery station.
The VIIATTI substation and HV line, also built by VALREA, are jointly owned with the Finnish consortium operating Kalistanneva, under a 35-year partnership through a jointly owned company, shared 50/50 by both wind farms.
The inauguration took place on Saturday, August 23, in the presence of local officials and Mari-Leena Talvitie, Finland’s Minister of Science and Culture. More than 1,200 citizens attended the celebration, enjoying performances by local artists and personalities, as well as the famous Finnish group Käärijä.
The Project That Launched the Group’s International Activity, Showcasing All Its Expertise
A landmark within the Group, VIIATTI marks the first major international achievement of VALOREM and its subsidiaries.
Thanks to this first Finnish development, VALREA, the Group’s construction subsidiary, carried out its first international project—and on a large scale: 57 Nordex N163 wind turbines of 5.5 MW, plus 5 massive 90 MVA transformers weighing 92 tons each (roughly the weight of two Airbus A320s), stepping voltage up from 33 to 110 kV.
Today, it is VALEMO, VALOREM’s operations and maintenance subsidiary, that ensures the operation and maintenance of both wind farms. VALEMO has established a maintenance base in Oulu, Finland, and hired two local O&M managers.
Welcome to VALOREM Energies Finland Oy
VALOREM has been active in Finland since 2014 through collaborations with Finnish partners. In 2020, the Group created its local subsidiary in Helsinki: VALOREM Energies Finland Oy.
This subsidiary now employs more than 25 Finnish professionals, covering the Group’s full range of expertise: studies, electrical engineering, development & consultation, construction, O&M, and more. In Finland, the team manages a project portfolio of 1.1 GW in wind, 500 GWp in solar PV and 300 M of BESS.
The Group is also developing its offshore wind ambitions in the North Sea area, particularly in neighboring Estonia.
Partnership with AIP Management
VALOREM began working with AIP Management in 2022, when financing the Matkussaari project (100% owned by VALOREM). Matkussaari Wind Farm Oy, the project company, secured a long-term flexible loan of €135 million from AIP Management, along with a €10 million VAT facility from OP Bank.
This initial success paved the way for a deeper partnership, leading to AIP’s entry into VALOREM’s capital in early 2025.
“We are extremely proud to have taken part in this major project alongside our partners HELEN, the electricity provider for Helsinki, and Ålandsbanken, both owners of the Kalistanneva site. We are grateful for their trust and for the excellent collaboration, particularly in sharing assets (OHL and substation), which ensured the success of this project.”
“The commissioning of the Kalistanneva wind farm strengthens Helen’s electricity generation portfolio and, in turn, Finland’s energy self-sufficiency. Our clean electricity production now represents more than 90% across Finland. By 2025, Helen’s annual wind generation will surpass the electricity previously produced from coal. The successful cooperation with VALOREM and other partners made this project possible.”
“This festive day was a concrete demonstration of the perfect collaboration with Helen and Ålandsbanken. I would also like to thank Minister Mari-Leena Talvitie for celebrating with us. After launching Finland’s first green energy crowdfunding campaign in 2025, VALOREM once again demonstrates its expertise and commitment to an energy transition serving local communities.”
