Repowering
BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO YOUR WIND FARMS

Commissioned in the early 2000s, France’s first wind farms are reaching the end of their first life cycle. Their strengths remain intact: a well-documented wind resource, existing grid connections, and local acceptance built up over time. Repowering makes it possible to generate more green electricity at these sites without taking up new land, and serves as a major driver for achieving national renewable energy production targets.
For the VALOREM Group, repowering a wind farm is not just about increasing its capacity by replacing the wind turbines. It involves rethinking it as a regional energy system, integrating regulations, the grid, storage, electricity sales, and the expectations of local stakeholders.
As a pioneer in wind power in France, the VALOREM Group has been developing, building, and operating wind farms for nearly 35 years. With our VALOREM RePower offer, we put our expertise in wind farm renewal to work for the entire industry: developers, investors, and asset owners.
Our offer
With VALOREM RePower, we view every renovation as an opportunity to create more value, both for your asset and for the local community that hosts it. From planning to operation, our support is structured in 6 steps.
Who is it for?
- Developers seeking to leverage proven expertise in renewal projects.
- Investment funds looking to extend and increase the value of their assets.
- Asset owners whose wind farms are nearing the end of their lifespan.
Technical and economic assessment, production analysis, equipment condition assessment, securing existing land rights, and evaluation of the site and its constraints. Proposal for maximizing production from the existing facilities.
Comparison of scenarios (complete repowering, modernization, life extension, or partial replacement) and modeling of energy output, costs, and profitability to identify the configuration that creates the most value.
Feasibility studies, selection of equipment suited to the site, design that takes into account the existing connection and grid requirements, evaluation of a storage solution, and obtaining permits.
Consultation with elected officials, local residents, and local stakeholders at every stage, and coordination among stakeholders.
Support regarding project financing methods. Financial structuring: from securing bank financing to structuring power purchase agreements (PPAs), including the option of crowdfunding from residents and local governments.
Engineering, procurement, and construction management: removal and dismantling of the old wind turbines, reuse and recycling of equipment, construction of the new wind farm and grid connection, followed by site restoration.
Operation and maintenance, operations management and performance monitoring, asset management, and electricity valuation.
